Is that small bedroom feeling a little cramped these days? Why not give it a tropical facelift to make it light and airy and be sure to add a tropical comforter too.
Small spaces can have the illusion of bigness with the use of light colors. Light warm colors give the room a feeling of being sun kissed and airy.
Start by painting your ceiling and walls a brilliant white. Then choose one wall to be a feature wall and choose a brilliant warm shade such as a burnt orange, turquoise, or a fuchsia. All will evoke feelings of warm tropical islands. Use matte finish paint and then consider stenciling a palm tree or an exotic beach scene in sunny yellows, emerald greens, or sky blues.
Keep your window dressings simply. No frilly or bold drapes as they will make your space appear smaller and they will detract from your tropical décor. Stick with your theme. If you are building a Caribbean villa then but white wood Venetian blinds on your winds or how about bamboo blinds.
Place a woven rush matt, jute matt, or bamboo matt on the floor. Consider terra cotta tiling. It looks great and the color is warm and inviting plus it makes your room look larger.
Go crazy with color in your accessories. Add exotic wood carvings, some tropical parrots, exotic floral print bedding and cushions. Add some wonderful flowers real or faux. Choose dramatic lighting.
Now it's time to add some wall décor. Consider a fabulous sunset photograph series or a bright and vibrant colored painting, perhaps an abstract.
Instead of placing your bed against a wall if at all possible place it in the center of the room. It makes the bed feel like it's the tropical island.
Now if you really want to add the finishing touches to that tropical bedroom with your tropical comforter and then hang muslin behind the headboard and pin it along the ceiling letting it hang down slightly. Mosquito netting works great too.
When it comes to tropical comforters there are many great choices.
1. Hawaiian Prints - What a great choice for that tropical bedroom with the Hawaii theme. There are many different patterns and colors to pick from.
2. Hibiscus Prints - Hibiscus prints are decadent and can add the finishing touches to any tropical room.
3. Tropical Palm - This soft print sets a subtle tone to your tropical theme.
4. Batik - If you've ever wanted to make a solid statement and have your bed noticed then a batik comforter will do just that. Vibrant colors and prints that can only be classified as works of art.
5. Solids - Never underestimate the power of solids - warm colors such as burnt orange, fuchsia, and turquoise can look heavenly especially when mixed together with throw pillows that contrast.
Consider using peacock feathers around the room in a variety of ways. Add to flower bouquets, use to decorate your nightstands, use on your wall décor, or entwine in your netting. You are limited only by your imagination.
